Stockholm's Jonestown are stepping into the spotlight with their debut album ‘Promise Of Enlightenment’, released May 29, 2026 — a 75-minute record spanning nine originals and two covers.
‘In the Light of a Frightful Dream’
The penultimate original track on the album is one of its most progressive and structurally ambitious moments. The song moves through several distinct sections and shifts between time signatures, alternating between heavy, clean and thrash-driven passages, with an extended instrumental stretch carrying the song through to its close.
Lyrically, the track draws on Robert Louis Stevenson's ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, following the same horror-fiction lineage as the band's earlier single ‘Viy’ (based on Gogol). It's a study in divided identity and the cost of unleashing one's darker half.
Sound & Production
Jonestown blend thrash aggression and classic heavy metal tradition with progressive songwriting, drawing comparisons to early Metallica, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and punk rock. ‘Promise Of Enlightenment’ was mixed and mastered by Sebastian Has — known for his work with Behemoth — in Warsaw.
About Jonestown
Jonestown was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 2009. Their music combines thrash aggression, classic heavy metal roots and progressive songwriting — blending memorable riffs, melodic vocals and dramatic contrasts into a distinctive and recognisable sound.
The band was highly active in its early years before a hiatus scattered the members across different cities and paths in life. In the early 2020s, four of the founding members reunited in Stockholm and began creating what would become their debut album.
