Kalmah closed our Day Two photo run with exactly what three decades of practice looks like: Flying-V guitars, that unmistakable twin-lead attack, an ornate backdrop and a field of raised horns from the barrier to the back fence. Swamp metal in the early evening sun. Backstage afterwards, Metal Madness Weekly recorded an interview with the band.

Three Decades of Swamp Metal

Kalmah occupy a particular place in Finnish melodic death metal: never the biggest name on a poster, always one of the most reliable live propositions on it. The interview covers that longevity — the consistency of the line-up, the band's relationship with its own back catalogue, and why the songs still work in front of an audience that was not born when some of them were written.

Melody as the Point

The conversation turns to craft: the twin-guitar writing that defines the band, how keyboards sit inside that arrangement without softening it, and how Kalmah keep melodic death metal melodic without losing the bite.

Home Turf

Playing a Helsinki festival in front of a domestic crowd sets a specific bar, and Kalmah talk about the difference between a Finnish field and an export show — plus what the band has planned beyond the 2026 festival run.

Watch the full Kalmah video interview in the player above — it premieres at 00:00 tonight — and our Day Two report covers the set in full.
