DEVIN IAN SCHRAMM – "ELECTRIC REVERIE": AN ANTHEMIC DREAM IN SOUND
Introduction
Some artists spend their careers perfecting a single formula, and others treat every release as new territory to explore. Devin Ian Schramm, based in Central Texas, belongs firmly to the second category. His latest single, "Electric Reverie," is an instrumental release that captures something both anthemic and dreamy — and it marks his return to studio-recorded instrumental music after more than four years.
Artist background
Schramm has been involved in music since the age of 12, when he joined the Bellville Brahma Band, and has been actively recording since 2016. Over the years, his creative journey has taken him through solo releases, collaborations, live performances and multiple musical projects. In 2021, he joined the independent label Vital Music Empire, based in Storm Lake, Iowa, which was co-founded by his regular collaborator TaliBoy719. June 2022 brought the album Don't Be Silly, You'll Crash It, Vol. 2 — his first full-length record in more than two years and his first since signing with the label — a release that helped establish several of his most recognised and streamed tracks. From May to November 2023, he played bass for The Fallback Plan, and he has also performed with Dean Erickson and astat1c. Since 2025, his workload has increased further, with a more frequent solo release schedule alongside live performances with his primary band, Sight Without Vision, and the slam metal side project Dinosaurs Before Dark, whose debut EP, Flippin The Channels, arrived in August 2026.
Review of the song
"Electric Reverie" is a significant release within Schramm's catalogue, because it marks his first studio-recorded instrumental track in more than four years. Rather than approaching it as a simple instrumental exercise, he built the song around a specific emotional idea: capturing something that felt both anthemic and dreamy. That concept becomes central to the character of the track. Elements of art rock, shoegaze and neo-psychedelia are woven together, while an extensive use of effects pedals contributes to its atmospheric and textural identity.
Musical analysis
What makes "Electric Reverie" work is its refusal to fit neatly into a single category. The track is less concerned with genre labels than with creating a particular experience. There is space for atmosphere, texture and imagination — the instrumentation, production and textures carry the emotional weight rather than lyrics. The result is music that exists somewhere between atmosphere and momentum: dreamlike in concept, yet carried by an anthemic quality that gives it direction. The layers of effects-driven colour and the layered production reward close, repeated listening.
Why listeners should pay attention
Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Schramm's story is the sheer variety of his musical activity. From early band experiences to independent label releases, solo recordings, live performances, collaborations and genre-crossing projects, his career has been defined by movement. "Electric Reverie" does not attempt to present him as an artist who has everything figured out — instead, it sounds like another step in an ongoing creative journey. And sometimes that is where the most interesting music comes from: an artist follows an idea simply because it feels worth exploring.
Conclusion
Devin Ian Schramm is clearly an artist with a wide creative range, and "Electric Reverie" captures that spirit particularly well. Its blend of art rock, shoegaze and neo-psychedelia, combined with layered production and effects-driven textures, feels atmospheric without losing its sense of purpose. For listeners discovering him for the first time, it offers an intriguing introduction; for those already familiar, it provides another glimpse of an artist who continues to explore what music can become when genre boundaries are treated as possibilities rather than limitations. "Electric Reverie" is another beautiful step in that journey.
