With Special Guests ANKOR & SELF DECEPTION | Live Report | 6 November 2026 | Logomo, Turku, Finland
On 6 November 2026, Logomo in Turku welcomed Amaranthe, accompanied by special guests ANKOR and Self Deception. Unfortunately, due to the evening’s schedule, I missed ANKOR’s performance, but arrived in time to experience Self Deception before Amaranthe took over the stage.
This live report focuses on the performances of Self Deception and Amaranthe.
Some concerts are all about the music. Others deliver an entire experience, combining powerful performances, striking visuals, audience interaction and moments that stay with you long after the final notes fade away.
SELF DECEPTION – A Powerful Start with Personality and Attitude

Self Deception made a strong impression right from the beginning. The band entered the stage with plenty of energy, immediately establishing a connection with the audience.
Their sound offered an interesting mixture of hardcore, alternative metal, hard rock and punk influences. Rather than staying within one musical lane, the band moved between different expressions, balancing aggression, melody and a refreshing sense of playfulness.
The vocalist deserves particular recognition for his ability to engage the crowd. His stage presence helped create an atmosphere where the audience felt involved rather than simply standing and watching.
The bassist was another visual highlight. His distinctive outfits, masks and striking stage styling added personality to the performance and gave the band an identity that extended beyond the music itself.

The third song, “The Scandinavian Dream”, stood out with a particularly impressive drum introduction. The drummer opened the track with a powerful performance that immediately caught the attention of the room.
The fourth song, “Matthew McConaughey”, brought a more playful and entertaining side of the band to the forefront. It was a welcome change of mood, showing that heaviness and a good sense of humour can coexist perfectly well on a metal stage.
The fifth track, “GODDAMN ME”, felt like one of the most versatile moments of the set, revealing another dimension of the band’s musical range.
There was also a more emotional moment when the vocalist introduced a song connected to the suicide of a personal friend. It gave the performance a deeply human dimension and reminded the audience that music can carry stories far beyond entertainment.
Self Deception delivered a lively, varied and convincing performance. They demonstrated that a modern heavy band can combine energy, attitude, musical diversity and genuine personality without losing its identity.

AMARANTHE – Three Voices, One Extraordinary Musical Identity
Amaranthe approached the stage with a production that immediately demanded attention.
The show opened with lasers cutting through the darkness, accompanied by sound effects reminiscent of futuristic weaponry. It created an almost cinematic introduction, preparing the audience for the spectacle that followed.
And then came the music.
One of the first things that stood out was the combination of three vocalists. It is a defining part of Amaranthe’s identity, and hearing the contrasting voices work together live makes it particularly clear why this formula is so effective.
The three vocalists are Elize Ryd, Nils Molin and Mikael Sehlin.
Mikael Sehlin brings the heavier growled vocals, Nils Molin provides the melodic male vocal lines, while Elize Ryd delivers the soaring female vocals that add another level of expression to the band’s sound.
The contrast is remarkable. Heavy growls, clean male melodies and an almost operatic female voice meet within the same songs, creating a dynamic that gives Amaranthe a distinctive musical depth.
It could easily become overcrowded with three different vocal approaches, but Amaranthe makes it work. Each voice has its own space, and together they create something considerably bigger than the sum of their individual parts.
“Digital World” was a particularly enjoyable example of this combination. The track carried fantastic energy, with the growled vocals, lighter male melodies and Elize’s beautiful voice complementing each other brilliantly.
Elize Ryd – A Stage Presence That Fills the Entire Room
Elize Ryd was one of the evening’s most captivating highlights.
During the fourth song, she appeared in a striking leather cape and climbed onto an elevated platform beside the drum kit. From there, her powerful vocals reached across the venue, capturing the audience’s attention.
The visual impact was impressive, but it was the voice that truly made the moment special.
She later removed the cape, adding another visual dimension to the performance, while her vocals reached an almost operatic quality. Her remarkable range, control and ability to move between delicate melodic passages and powerful high notes were genuinely impressive.
There is also something special about her charisma. Her stage presence radiates confidence, beauty and an infectious positive energy that seems to spread throughout the entire venue.
It is not simply about hitting the right notes. It is about making the audience feel something.
And Elize certainly knows how to do that.
Stronger – A Moment That Delivered Everything
“Stronger” was another outstanding moment, delivering the kind of energy and musical impact that makes Amaranthe such an entertaining live act.
The song showcased the band’s strengths beautifully: powerful instrumentation, memorable melodies and the interplay between the three vocalists.
The audience was fully engaged, and the atmosphere inside Logomo reflected the positive energy coming from the stage.
Amaranthe’s live show is not just a collection of songs. It is a carefully balanced combination of musicianship, performance, visual production and audience connection.
The lighting and laser effects added another layer to the experience, while the band’s vocal arrangements kept the music constantly moving between different moods and intensities.
There is a reason why this band has developed such a recognisable identity within modern metal.
Sometimes You Just Have to Put the Notes Away and Enjoy the Music
After capturing the atmosphere and the standout moments, I wanted to put the notes aside and simply enjoy the rest of Amaranthe’s performance.
That is perhaps one of the best compliments a live band can receive. When the music, vocals, stage presence and atmosphere come together so naturally, you sometimes just want to stop analysing everything and become part of the experience.
And Amaranthe certainly provided plenty of reasons to do exactly that.
Their three-vocalist concept is not a gimmick. It is a genuine musical strength. The contrast between the heavy growls, melodic male vocals and Elize Ryd’s extraordinary voice gives the songs a depth and character that make the live experience especially rewarding.
The band’s ability to combine heaviness, melody, theatrical presentation and positive energy makes them an exciting live act.
If you have never seen Amaranthe on stage, my recommendation is simple: go and see them.
You might arrive expecting modern metal. You may leave having experienced something considerably more spectacular.
FINAL VERDICT
Self Deception and Amaranthe brought different strengths to the evening at Logomo.
Self Deception impressed with its energetic delivery, distinctive visual identity, musical variety and ability to connect with the audience. Amaranthe, meanwhile, demonstrated the power of its unique three-vocalist approach, supported by an impressive production and outstanding stage presence.
Two different interpretations of modern heavy music, but both capable of creating an atmosphere that makes a live concert worthwhile.
A memorable evening of heavy music, personality, powerful voices and positive energy in Turku.
